Founded in loving memory of Juline Schmitz, the foundation aims to empower young people by fostering confidence and self-expression through dance in a safe and inclusive environment[1][2].
Mission and Vision
The foundation’s mission is to offer all young people who desire to perform and express themselves through dance a welcoming platform. It emphasizes building confidence and artistic skills regardless of cultural or socio-economic background. Their vision is to create a community where dance opportunities are accessible to all children without barriers or boundaries, thereby honoring Juline Schmitz’s legacy[2].
Programs and Activities
The Juline Foundation provides a range of dance education programs, including:
- Youth Dance Programs: An eight-week arts education outreach visiting schools lacking formal dance instruction, proven to increase academic engagement.
- Soaring Stars Program: An advanced program for students showing interest and aptitude in dance to explore performance in greater depth.
- Juline Regional Youth Ballet: An audition-only pre-professional ballet company offering serious-minded dancers training and performance opportunities aimed at preparing them for careers in dance[1].
Regular seasonal performances are held in educational institutions and youth organizations throughout Modesto and the greater Stanislaus County region to showcase students' progress and foster community involvement[1].
Governance and Leadership
The foundation is governed by a board of directors including Debbie Bertucci (President), Catherine Rhee (Vice President), Linda West (Secretary), Alex Farris (Executive Director), and several other members. Artistic leadership includes Akira Takahashi as Artistic Director and Amy Briones as Assistant Artistic Director[2][5].
Funding and Support
The Juline Foundation’s funding sources include grants and contributions, such as a $10,000 grant from the Stanislaus Community Foundation and other support from organizations like the AmazonSmile Foundation. Program expenses primarily focus on delivering dance education and outreach services[5].
Impact and Recognition
By spreading "the magic of dance," the Juline Foundation for Children enriches youth development through the arts, helping children gain self-expression and academic engagement. Its programs serve the Modesto community and Stanislaus County, reinforcing the importance of arts education in children's lives[1][4].
