From cheering each other on to helping up a fallen opponent, sportsmanship makes the beautiful game even better. This week, the YSSL applauds the following 14 teams that remind us all what it means to lead with heart. These matches took place on May 10 and 11th. In the match between Chicagoland United SC 2006 and Lindenhurst Area Soccer Club (LASC) 06/07/08 the referee reported, “Very great and hard fought game. Players were very respectful as well as the coaches. Amazing atmosphere witnessed as a referee.” In the match between Galaxy Soccer Club 2015 SELECT BLACK PREDATOR and Lombard Firebirds SC 2015 BLACK 1 the referee commented, “The game went smoothly with only 2 fouls and both teams seemed to get along well because the coaches seemed to be friends. Overall the game was fast paced and well played with both teams fighting hard but Galaxy managed to pull ahead.” In the match between Bolingbrook Soccer Club 2014 RED and Chicago Rush 2014 PREMIER 2 the referee said, “ The game was exciting to watch with both teams playing hard but fair. Oswego dominated most of the game but the Raiders still never gave up until the very end.” In the match between Chicago City Soccer Club 2015 V and Chicago Fire Youth Soccer Club 2015B SELECT RED the referee noted, “ Both teams and coached played with class. Fire coach pulled players off the field when it was 8-0 in the 1st half. In the second half fire players passed and didn't take a single shot on goal until City scored 3 goals for themselves. The level of sportsmanship was next level.” In the match between Mundelein Soccer Club 2017 GRAY and Lake Forest Soccer Association 2017 PORTUGAL the referee revealed, “ Coaches for both teams were very respectful and professional! Players and parents followed the example set by the coaches and made this a delightful game to officiate, despite the lopsided score. Kudos to both of these clubs and their coaches.” In the match between Northern United FC 2016 BARCA and Pegasus FC (2016) BLUE the referee disclosed, “Great Game! Respectful players, coaches and PARENTS!!! Both teams played hard and respectful. They apologized to each other if there was a foul. Parents actually walked over after the game to thank me for coming out and doing their kid's game. Just a great all-around game and fun for all involved.” In the match between Tri-Cities Soccer Association 2015 VIPERS and Chicago Soccer Academy of Fox Valley 2015 MARSEILLE commented, “Great game. Had to talk to both coaches after the game about not "interacting" between each other or the assistant coaches. Both head coaches agreed it was a great game and it fired them all up.
