Mission – Opera Company of Brooklyn (OCB) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization founded in 2000 by Artistic Director Jay Meetze. The company enriches cultural life by offering affordable performances of a wide range of repertoire sung concert style in intimate spaces by talented local artists accompanied by piano. Showcasing opera in this fashion allows for direct engagement with the art form. In this way OCB helps to stimulate and educate audiences, allowing opera to flourish.Our Programs:Kids under 18 are free! – BYOB Series – This is the best way to enjoy opera – bring your own bottle and have fun with good company and great music. Enjoy a classic opera or a rare piece with your favorite drink.Music For All – OCB's education program connects students with opera and its history. We collaborate with teachers to provide students with the historical background of a given music genre from opera to jazz and beyond. In this way OCB helps to stimulate and educate audiences, allowing opera to flourish.The Opera Company of Brooklyn (OCB) was founded in 2000 by artists to promote talented singing actors, while providing affordable and accessible opera to all, thus building new audiences for the art form. Our extensive repertoire has covered everything from classics like Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro to 20th century masterpieces such as Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmelites. We have performed all over the city from private residences to the Voorhees Theatre at the New York City College of Technology. The company has also performed new works like Thomas Pasatieri's La Divina, an opera about the last days of a famous diva supposedly based on Maria Callas. Meetze recorded the opera where internationally renown soprano Sheri Greenawald, now the head of San Francisco Opera, Merola Young Artist program, performed. Our innovative company has been featured on Jeopardy, Good Morning America, and CNN.
