SAVE THE DATE for Schiff’s 16th Annual Environmental Film Festival! Join us on Saturday, June 7th, for an unforgettable evening at Schiff’s 16th Annual Environmental Film Festival! Check-in begins at 6:30 PM as we gather to celebrate community, conservation, and cinema under the stars. This year’s featured film will be “Clear Day Thunder: Rescuing the American Chestnut – a compelling story of restoration and resilience”. This special event offers a unique way to experience the preserve, bringing together film lovers, nature enthusiasts, and friends for an inspiring night. Each year, we showcase thought-provoking environmental films that foster meaningful discussions all while raising essential funds for Schiff Natural Lands Trust. Wood Badge Lodge is transformed into a wonderful woodland theatre with seating around a lit fire pit. Guests are welcome to bring a picnic dinner and beverages to enjoy along with the popcorn and water provided by Schiff. Sweet treats and beverages may also be available for purchase to support Eagle Scout projects. Mark your calendars and be part of this meaningful tradition that supports the mission of Schiff Natural Lands Trust. Advanced registration is required! In the event of rain, the films will be shown inside Wood Badge Lodge. Look who’s been strutting through the preserve! A wild turkey was spotted roaming the trails, reminding us of the incredible biodiversity right here at Schiff. Wild turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo) are social, ground-dwelling birds known for their keen eyesight and impressive speed, they can run up to 20 mph and even fly short distances! These birds are most active during dawn and dusk, foraging for acorns, seeds and insects. During spring, males put on an extravagant display, puffing up their feathers and fanning their tails in hopes of attracting a mate. If you’re lucky enough to spot a turkey, observe from a distance and enjoy their natural behavior! Have you seen any interesting wildlife on your hikes? Share your sightings with us! . . . . . #schiffnaturallandstrust #schiffnaturepreserve #wildturkeys #mendhamnj #mendham (fb)
