Ducks Unlimited, Inc. is a renowned U.S.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to wetlands and waterfowl conservation. Founded in 1937 during the Dust Bowl, when waterfowl populations had drastically declined due to severe droughts, the organization was established by a group of sportsmen committed to preserving these species.

History

The organization was conceived on the banks of New York's Beaverkill River, specifically during a meeting at the fishing camp of Joseph Palmer Knapp. Initially, the name "Ducks" was proposed, but it evolved to "Ducks Unlimited" to reflect the scope of their mission and accommodate Canadian incorporation requirements. The first meeting of Ducks Unlimited Canada took place in Winnipeg in 1938, signifying the beginning of collaborative efforts between the U.S. and Canada.
