#WorldHealthDay: Did you know that access to reconstructive surgical care helps protect the long-term health and well-being of mothers and their newborns? Meet Matías and his mom, Estefanía, from rural Villamontes, Bolivia. In villamontes, women experiencing birthing complications have few resources. When Estefanía's baby Matías was finally born, he was born with a brachial plexus injury—his right arm was twisted during delivery, damaging the nerves in the shoulder that control movement and leaving his limb unusable. To prevent the condition from becoming permanent, he would need surgery before his first birthday. Through hands-on training from ReSurge Medical Volunteers like Dr. Amy Moore – Dr. Jorge Terrazas, a long-time ReSurge partner in Bolivia, was able to deliver the specialized care Matías needed with the support of his surgical team. Now, little Matías has a lifetime of mobility. As we close out #WorldHealthDay, stand with ReSurge and help us close the gap to reconstructive surgical care in support of the immediate and long-term health of mothers and their babies 🧡 Read Matías and Estefanía's Story 🔗 in bio.
