Peculiar Works Project creates original performance works that challenge the conventions of medium, structure and process in an alternative context. Since 1993, Catherine Porter, Ralph Lewis and Barry Rowell have collaborated together as Peculiar Works Project to create, develop and present original multi-disciplinary performances that are accessible and fun for diverse audiences. PWP has originated both intimate theatrical works utilizing multi-media and large-scale performance events that invade entire NYC buildings. The company challenges the conventions of medium, structure and process in an alternative performance context. PWP encourages collaboration, experimentation and a rebel spirit in emerging artists by providing them with the tools and opportunities necessary for artistic growth.PWP performs in unconventional spaces because of a belief that unique sites impact the work, this work in turn impacts the site, and audiences then experience both in surprising new ways. The company has taken work directly into local communities by presenting site-specific productions in landmark buildings, gutted storefronts and other peculiar sites throughout NYC. PWP continues to bring unusual work to new audiences by building partnerships with other organizations. Original performances have been exhibited in conjunction with HERE, Lincoln Center Directors Lab, New Georges, Judson Church, Jefferson Market Library, Instituto Cervantes, Soho ThinkTank/Ohio Theatre, Dixon Place, Gertrude Stein Rep and The Culture Project, among others.
