The recent layoffs at the Region V Office of Head Start — which provides essential support to Head Start programs in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, and Ohio — have caused understandable concerns and confusion for our community. At this time, there has been no communication with Head Start programs about how critical processes and funding management will be handled moving forward. We want to reassure our families, staff, and community partners that there are no immediate impacts on ADVOCAP Head Start operations. However, we recognize that the loss of regional support staff creates uncertainty, particularly for Head Start programs that are currently applying for refunding. With no point of contact or clear guidance, these programs are left unsure of how to continue the application process. Head Start is a vital program that provides comprehensive early childhood education, health, and family well-being services to children in low-income households. Nationally and locally, it plays a crucial role in preparing young learners for school success while supporting parents in their pursuit of financial stability. Our program alone serves 202 children from 191 families in Fond du Lac and Green Lake Counties, ensuring access to quality education and reliable childcare for working parents. We know that disruptions to Head Start services would have significant consequences, reaching beyond the classroom. Many families rely on Head Start not only for early learning opportunities but also for essential services such as nutritious meals and developmental screenings. Additionally, uncertainty around funding processes affects the educators and staff who make this program possible. As we work through these challenges and await official communications, we encourage our community to voice their support for Head Start by reaching out to their representatives. Advocacy is critical in ensuring that Head Start remains a strong and stable resource for our children, families, and communities. ADVOCAP is committed to providing uninterrupted services and will share updates as more information becomes available. Thank you for your continued support of Head Start and the families we serve.
