West Michigan Electrical Joint Apprenticeship & Training Committee
Overview
The West Michigan Electrical Joint Apprenticeship & Training Committee (WMEJATC) is a nonprofit organization that provides comprehensive electrical apprenticeship programs. It operates as part of the Electrical Training Alliance (ETA), which is the largest and oldest electrical apprenticeship program globally, training over 40,000 apprentices annually.
Programs
The WMEJATC offers two registered programs with the United States Department of Labor:
- 4-Year Time-Based Program: This program leads to Journeyman Inside Wireman status upon completion. It focuses on classroom instruction and hands-on training to equip apprentices with the necessary skills for commercial and industrial electrical work.
- 4-Year Competency-Based Program: Designed for those seeking Journeyman Construction Electrician status, this program also combines classroom education with on-the-job training.
Training Curriculum
The training includes a wide range of topics such as:
- Electrical Theory: Understanding principles of electricity, including voltage, current, resistance, and power.
- National Electrical Code (NEC): Learning standards and regulations for safe electrical installation and maintenance.
- Blueprint Reading: Interpreting electrical blueprints and schematics.
- Safety Practices: Emphasizing the importance of safety in all electrical work.
- Hands-On Training: Gaining practical experience through supervised on-the-job training.
Benefits and Structure
Apprentices in these programs are typically employed by electrical contractors while attending classes, allowing them to earn a wage while learning. The program structure ensures that apprentices gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for a successful career in the electrical industry.
EIN Information
The organization is registered with the IRS under the EIN 237078462, reflecting its status as a nonprofit entity.
