Middle Circle (3rd & 4th Grade) archeologists have been discovering the world of the Lenape people! They listened to the Lenape origin story, studied artifacts, and explored village life. Did you know “Lenni Lenape” means “Original People”? 🔍 MC has been investigating wigwams and longhouses, examining their structures and the teamwork needed to build them. 🏠 After learning how longhouses served as communal homes, they reflected: “What kind of structure would best serve OUR SRV community?” Their answer? A welcoming space where everyone belongs ❤️ Then, they put their knowledge to the test—building their own longhouse-inspired structure! 📚 Along the way, MCers practiced nonfiction reading, synthesized new info, and compared different dwellings. 🌱 Meet Paul, our science and garden teacher at The School in Rose Valley! 🌱 With a background in agroforestry and education, a stint in the Peace Corps, and years of experience in Ecuador promoting sustainable farming practices, Paul brings a wealth of knowledge to our students. His approach to teaching encourages students to see themselves as scientists, fostering their natural curiosity about the world. Paul leads our garden program as well, where students learnabout everything from seed starting to farm-to-fork sustainability. This year, the garden is growing cool season crops like lettuce and beets, and we are dreaming of an SRV salad bar, run by the students! 🥗🌾 At SRV, progressive education meets real-world application, from science experiments to outdoor cooking.
