The United States entered World War I in spring of 1917. A short time after, in Columbia, Pennsylvania, a young man was called to serve overseas to fight, leaving his beloved parents behind. A year after his departure in July 1918, the soldier's parents were at home when his mother heard her soldier son's voice calling out to her.

Delicate and colorful, orchids are the stylish residents of many greenhouses and capture the eye of garden-goers and nursery visitors alike.
