Thank you to all who attended our first-ever First Friday event at the Stevens & Smith Center on April 4, where visitors had the opportunity to see the remarkable progress being made at this future museum. It was an evening filled with learning and laughter, with a bit of delicious cake on the side to celebrate Thaddeus Stevens' 233rd birthday!🎉 Stay tuned for more exciting events at the Stevens and Smith Center. Today is #NationalBeerDay!🍺 Why today of all days? Today in 1933 is when the Cullen-Harrison Act went into effect, amending the Volstead Act which prohibited alcohol sales since 1920. The Cullen-Harrison Act permitted the manufacture and sale of low-alcohol beer and wines, a key step towards the full repeal of Prohibition on December 5, 1933. Pictured here is Knapp's Saloon and Brewery on East King Street in Lancaster City, with a horse-drawn wagon full of beer kegs in front. (📸 General Collection, LancasterHistory) (fb)
