Junior Jones Hidalgo is HIAS PA's May Volunteer of the Month! Junior is a strong advocate for our clients and excels at interpretation for legal cases. He is always willing to use his legal and interpretation skills to support pro bono attorneys who are representing clients in removal proceedings. He brings both legal knowledge and intuition to all of his engagements with clients. We are deeply grateful for the work he has done with HIAS PA which has been invaluable. Junior recently shared with us, “I love what I do as a volunteer at HIAS PA. I found out about HIAS PA as part of an assignment by one of my professors at Arcadia University in 2022. The goal of the assignment was to identify a local organization that provides legal assistance to the immigrant community in Philadelphia. I immediately signed up to become a Spanish interpreter volunteer and ever since I have participated in asylum clinics, citizenship interviews at USCIS, citizenship day coordinator and other activities at HIAS PA including mentoring first time college students. I have learned so much from all the staff members at HIAS PA that I have had the privilege to work and volunteer with. As a young Dominican and immigrant myself, who migrated to the United States in 2016 and did not speak a word of English, I understand how difficult it is for migrants' families to start all over again in a new country with a different language and culture. The work that HIAS PA provides to the immigrant community is so vital, and I am so honored to be part of such a wonderful organization.” (fb)
