THE FOUNDATION'S MISSION IS TO CREATE AND PROMOTE AWARENESS OF THE ROLE OF ITALY AND THE ITALIAN PEOPLE IN SAVING 80% OF THE JEWISH PEOPLE IN ITALY DURING THE HOLOCAUST. THIS INCLUDES ITALIAN JEWISH AND JEWISH PEOPLE WHO FLED TO ITALY FROM OTHER EUROPEAN COUNTRIES TO AVOID PERSECUTION. THE FOUNDATION WILL EMPHASIZE THAT "IF YOU ARE NOT INDIFFERENT, THINGS CAN BE DIFFERENT," AND THAT SURVIVAL WAS POSSIBLE DURING THIS TIME IN HISTORY IF PEOPLE HAD THE COURAGE TO CARE AND ACT UPON THAT COURAGE.

Italy And The Holocaust Foundation View Survivor Stories Below After Italy entered World War II on June 10 1940 enemy aliens and foreign Jews were arrested and interned. They were placed in Italianrun concentration camps or in small towns off the beaten path. The two largest camps were Ferramonti located outside of Tarsia in Calabria and the Camp of San Bartolomeo located in Campagna a small town in the mountains south of Naples. Many others were sent to a system of Free Confinement called Confino Libero where Jews were sent to live in small towns in Italy but had certain restrictions placed upon them including limitations on travel mandatory curfew and daily police checkins.
