ADI is delighted to announce that the 78th World Health Assembly has agreed to extend the Global Action Plan on the Public Health Response to Dementia by 6-years, marking a momentous decision, that will have an impact for the decades to come, for the more than 55 million people who presently are living with dementia and the 139 million that are forecast to live with the condition by 2050. ADI has been leading the call for the extension, resulting in this crucial decision. It follows 18-months advocacy, working closely with Member State, the WHO, Alzheimer & dementia associations and key stakeholders across the world. With dementia projected to be the third leading cause of death by 2040 and affecting millions globally, this extension to 2031 is a vital and significant step forward in driving global action on prevention, diagnosis, care, treatment, and support. We commend this decision and look forward to continuing our work, as highlighted in our latest "From Plan to Impact" report, to support those living with dementia and their families worldwide. Thank you to all who amplified this critical call! On the extension, ADI CEO, Paola Barbarino, has said: "We must now seize this opportunity, bringing together the dementia community to ensure that governments deliver against this renewed commitment, by creating a robust and funded national dementia plans. Now, this next phase of work must begin." #Dementia #WHA78 #UnitedNations #GlobalActionPlanOnDementia #NationalDementiaPlan #DementiaPolicy #Dementia #FromPlanToImpact @followers (fb)

On 21 May, marketing authorisation was granted for donanemab (Kisunla) in Australia for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, following after recent announcements from Brazil, and Mexico in April. With the announcement of the Australian approval, the authorisation means that donanemab can now be considered as a treatment option for individuals with early symptomatic Alzheimer's disease. Read more about the newest donanemab updates on the ADI website: https://www.alzint.org/news-events/news/donanemab-receives-marketing-authorisation-in-australia-brazil-and-mexico/ Alongside recent news of increasingly available Alzheimer's treatments, ADI is also sharing news from the US that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted marketing authorisation to a blood-based biomarker test to help diagnose Alzheimer’s disease. This makes the test the first of its kind authorised in the country to assist in the early detection of the condition. #Donanemab #AlzheimersTreatments #DementiaTreatments #Australia #Brazil #Mexico #dementiadiagnostics (fb)
