History

Founded on January 26, 1978, at Ohio State University by Marilyn Burns, Cindie Davis, Amy Matthews, Ann Huling Mathews, and Jennifer McMillan, Sigma Alpha was established as an alternative to traditional Greek sorority systems. It aimed to support women pursuing careers in agriculture.

Objective and Pillars

The sorority's objective is to promote its members in all facets of agriculture and strengthen bonds of friendship. Its pillars are Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Fellowship. Members strive for academic excellence, leadership development, community service, and fostering lifelong bonds.

Our Mission Sigma Alpha is a professional agricultural sorority that promotes scholarship leadership service and fellowship among its members. The sorority was founded in 1978 at the Ohio State University by five women who wanted an alternative to the social Greek sorority system. Since that time Sigma Alpha has become a national organization consisting of more than 80 chapters comprised of undergraduate and alumnae members. Today more than 19000 members have been initiated into Sigma Alpha Sorority.
