Today, the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association lost a part of our team that will not be able to be replaced. Chief Greg Earle (ret) was the President of the IFCA from 2019 to 2020. This afternoon, Greg lost his long battle with cancer (not that he didn’t put up a massive fight). He spent many years on the IFCA Board before that and served the Centralia Fire Protection District as their Chief. Greg was a towering presence. You could not tell Greg that something couldn’t be done – he would find a way. You could not tell him something wasn’t important – it was to him. And, good luck arguing against his logical point of view – you had better be prepared. He was a guiding force in our organization for many years both before his time as President and up until a mere weeks ago when he had difficulty talking. When you met Greg, you didn’t forget him.
