I Can Save the World was founded in 2003 by Michael Weisman, a teacher, who has spent much of his life dedicated to social and environmental causes. After a trip taken to Costa Rica to study rainforest habitats firsthand, it was realized that the rainforests in Costa Rica must be protected and reforested. It was decided that this would be the inaugural project, for a much larger movement.
