Last week, the National Museum of Mexican Art, alongside representatives from Mexico's Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), announced the repatriation of a Mayan frieze to its place of origin in Mexico. The limestone frieze dates between 500 and 900 CE, during the Classic Period of Maya civilization, and is a powerful symbol of Mexican heritage. NMMA will hold on to the frieze for the next year before it returns to Mexico permanently. In both places, it will be an educational tool for others to learn about repatriation.
