City Voices, Inc.
The mental health system has failed to help people with serious mental illness in meaningful ways to achieve a higher level of integration that includes independent living, paid work and community involvement. City Voices, since it is run by people with mental illnesses at all levels of the organization, will work to empower the mentally ill through peer-support and self-help. The difference between this new organization and others is that former psychiatric patients have become professional service providers and trainers for their peers.
