Care worker Sarah* hoped to build a better life in the UK, as she moved over from India under a skilled worker scheme. Instead, she was cruelly exploited. The mother-of-two was tricked into paying an extortionate fee of £28,000 to an agent. When she started work, she was given minimal hours, trapped in poor conditions, and faced threats of deportation when she complained. The abuse left Sarah facing severe difficulties with her mental health, and her young family struggling. She has been unable to secure justice against her exploiters. Now, as the UK Government plans to end overseas recruitment in the care sector, Sarah is speaking out. She is calling on leaders to protect others from abuse and help the many other care sector exploitation survivors out there.
