During our third Commencement ceremony, SUNY Oswego paused to honor the life and legacy of Ziyah J. Myers ’22 M’25 by presenting a posthumous master's degree in strategic communication to her family. As an undergraduate, Ziyah was a passionate student leader for several on-campus organizations, including Two and a Half, Bold Black Beauties, the Black Student Union, IMAGE Step Team and CSTEP. She played a founding role in the Asiwaju Ceremony — a celebration of graduating students of color. As a graduate student, she continued to uplift others as an advisor and colleague. Ziyah lived her values — championing equity, inclusion, and belonging in everything she did. Her legacy and impact live on through all who knew her and through a scholarship being set up in her honor.
