Happy Friday! Did you know you can check out this 1887 Bird's-eye map of La Crosse is at the La Crosse Area Heritage Center?! Bird's-eye maps like this one from 1887 of La Crosse created the illusion of a higher viewpoint by placing sketches of prominent buildings on a plan of a town. Sketches were drawn in reverse on lithographic stone and printed. From this imagined perspective, most details of city streets and houses were visible and identifiable. La Crosse's local history museum, the Heritage Center at 506 Main Street, is open Thursday-Sunday, 12:00-4:30 pm, last admission at 4:00 pm. (fb)

For the past two weeks our museums have been filled with School District of La Crosse 2nd graders learning outside of the classroom about our community's rich and diverse heritage! Students learned about Ho-Chunk culture, clamming, and the lumber industry at the La Crosse Area Heritage Center and at Historic Hixon House, students learned about the Hixon family, played historic games, and explored the house through scavenger hunts.
