As Christians, we know that our lives belong to God and we’re to live for his glory. Do you believe that applies to your Monday-to-Friday job? It does! Here are practical ways to honor God in your work this week. 1. Approach your work biblically. Work is not evil, and it’s not an add-on because of the fall. We’re doing what we were made to do in the image of a working God. Reframe your perspective about going to work not as an obligation but as a sacred responsibility. 2. Work with creativity, excellence, and integrity. Employ creativity as you solve problems, make things beautiful, and appreciate diversity. Do your work with excellence (not perfection), by putting your heart into your tasks and striving to improve. Choose to work hard and do what's right, even when it requires sacrifice. 3. Practice faith-driven, servant leadership. You don’t have to be the boss to be a leader. Treat your coworkers with respect, patience, and humility. Avoid gossip and negativity, and use your words to build them up instead. Go out of your way to listen, encourage a teammate, and offer wise counsel based in Scripture. 4. Confront ethical dilemmas and workplace challenges with faith. Allow God to use your not-perfect workplace to transform your heart. Respond to an angry coworker with love, make decisions prayerfully, follow regulations instead of finding loopholes, address unrealistic expectations with your boss instead of complaining to your office-mate, and work with passion but don't make your career your ultimate hope. 5. Boldly and humbly declare your identity as a Christian. As God gives you opportunity, speak up about being a Christ-follower and why it matters in your life and work. You can even bring faith into the conversation when someone asks your views on a cultural topic. Ask the Holy Spirit for discernment in each situation.
