The Rhythm Method is a fierce and flexible string quartet that plays good, often new, music. The mission of The Rhythm Method Inc. is to reimagine the string quartet in a contemporary, feminist context. Through creative collaboration, commissioning and performing a diverse range of repertoire, and holding educational workshops and seminars, we share a spectrum of creative possibility with the public. We believe that supporting and nurturing creative voices helps build community, presents a model for collective creativity, and helps to increase appreciation and secure support for contemporary music.

THE RHYTHM METHOD THE RHYTHM METHOD Photo by Maya Bennardo M I S S I O N S T A T E M E N T As an ensemble of four composerperformers The Rhythm Method strives to reimagine the string quartet in a contemporary feminist context. We cherish close collaboration with composers at every stage of work development andas improvisers and composers we are particularly interested in music which invites performers creative agency. Many of the works we write commission and choose to perform explore and expand the terrains between free improvisation and different forms of notation from graphic scores to Western classical notation. We believe that an intersectional feminist approach to our work means fostering equity through the amplification of marginalized voices.
