Landmine and Cluster Munition Monitor is an initiative providing research for the International Campaign to Ban Landmines and the Cluster Munition Coalition The International Campaign to Ban Landmines is a global network working to rid the world of landmines Landmines kill and maim several thousand people every year – farmers cultivating their land, children playing, women fetching water – families struggling to survive. The International Campaign to Ban Landmines fights to keep civilians safe from these inhumane weapons that still pose a risk, decades after conflicts have ended. Thanks to the ICBL's actions throughout the world, the number of new landmine victims has dropped dramatically and the use of landmines is increasingly rare. But there is still work to do—to clear the land that is contaminated by these silent killers and to take care of landmine survivors. We will keep fighting until everyone is safe from landmines. International Campaign to Ban Landmines
Every October, governments meet at the UN General Assembly’s First Committee on Disarmament and International Security. This forum is where states take positions on global peace and security, including weapons that cause unacceptable humanitarian harm. As the First Committee meets in New York this October–November 2025, the ICBL and CMC urge delegations to: ➡️ Condemn all use of landmines and cluster munitions, under any circumstances; ➡️ Denounce withdrawals from the Mine Ban Treaty and Convention on Cluster Munitions; ➡️ Encourage universal adherence by urging all states to join and stop withdrawal plans; ➡️ Vote in favour of the annual resolutions promoting these life-saving treaties.

👉 ICBL-CMC is making sure #Landmines and #ClusterMunitions stay on the agenda during UNGA this week. In a meeting with UN High Representative Izumi Nakamitsu, ICBL-CMC Director, Tamar Gabelnick, urged stronger leadership on state withdrawals, and reinforced the need that both the Secretary General and his deputy reinforce their calls that suspension form the treaties are not permitted. The meeting was also a chance to highlight the importance of UN support for humanitarian disarmament.
