America's Oldest Cultural Heritage Institution. The Library Company, founded by Benjamin Franklin in 1731, is America's oldest cultural institution. It is today an independent research library with over half a million rare books, manuscripts, prints, photographs, ephemera, and art and artifacts documenting every aspect of American history and culture from its beginnings through the end of the 19th century. The Library Company's mission is to preserve, make available, augment, and interpret its collections to a wide audience.

Learn more about the history of the de facto first Library of Congress and oldest colonial cultural institution in the United States. Guests will also learn more about art and artifacts on display in the Logan Room and as well as hear about the collection materials showcased in our rotating exhibition space. Space is limited so please sign up for only one tour time per person.
