Congratulations to Yaelle Ortiz '19 on her first co-op position at the Massachusetts Office of the Inspector General as an Assistant Investigator. She will be working with the Audit, Oversight, and Investigations Division and assisting with investigations into fraud, waste, and misuse of public resources in state and local government. Her role involves research, on-site interviews, reviewing financial records, analyzing policies and contracts, and responding to hotline complaints. Yaelle became interested in this field after taking a class on corruption, integrity, and accountability last year. She adds, "It really opened my eyes to how transparency and oversight shape government functioning and made me realize that I want to build a career where I can hold those at fault accountable and make sure the justice system works fairly. This position will give me hands-on experience with real investigations, and I’m excited to understand how accountability is enforced in government." "ACS played a big role in shaping my interests, especially the 7th-grade Washington, D.C. trip. I loved visiting the USSC and it was one of the moments that reinforced my passion for law. But my interest actually started even earlier. I can remember all the way back to 3rd grade, I did a presentation on Thurgood Marshall, and my dad even dressed up as him for me to present to the class. Visiting D.C. years later just made it all feel more real and pushed me toward wanting to pursue a career in law." Well done, Yaelle! (fb)
