His primary duty location was HQ Co USAPC Sixth Army at Fort Lewis, Washington where he served for 2 years. CHI Health at Home – Bismarck “We Honor Veterans” program had the privilege to honor Leon’s military service during his Veteran Pinning Ceremony. Family and friends were honored to participate in his ceremony. Leon received his Quilt of Valor in September 2021. Leon served in the United States Army from 1955 – 1962. He was a member of the 818th Engineer company out of ND that was activated and sent to Ft. Lewis Washington during the Cold War where he supported the Berlin Crisis Mission. He joined the Army National Guard and served from 1978 until he was honorably discharged in 1994. Leon was a dedicated soldier that prepared the food and provided much needed necessities to the solders of his unit and those he supported. Leon always maintained his humility but worked very hard to do the very best job he could to support the mission and the troops. Leon’s rank at discharge was Sergeant 1st Class and his MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) ration break down. He is a member of the Bismarck Amvets Post 9. A memory Leon shared: Camping by the Missouri River with guard members from South Dakota, meeting new people, and putting the floating bridge down across the Missouri River. “Leon, on behalf of the United States and CHI Health at Home – Bismarck “We Honor Veterans”, thank you for your service.” (fb)
