We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Assane Gueye, a dedicated food systems leader in Senegal and across West Africa. As the general coordinator of our partner organization ONG Agrecol Afrique in Senegal, Assane’s energy, optimism, and commitment to agroecology inspired and helped thousands and brought spirit to every space he entered. In 2024, our partner SAHEL ECO helped farmers in Mali drive a powerful shift to agroecology – a transition that is cushioning families against climate shocks in the Sahel while guiding them towards a more stable future The Sahel is one of the poorest regions in the world. With over half of the population depending on farming or herding, Sahel Eco’s work is life-changing.
