San Diego LGBT Pride
San Diego LGBT Pride is a nonprofit organization located in San Diego, California. The organization's mission is to foster pride, equality, and respect for all lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities locally, nationally, and globally.
History
The organization was formed in 1974 as a sponsored program of The Center for Social Services. It produced the first Lesbian and Gay Parade in San Diego to celebrate the 1969 Stonewall Rebellion. San Diego LGBT Pride incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 1994. The first permitted Pride Parade in San Diego occurred in 1975, following earlier informal parades and protests organized by the Gay Liberation Front, which was founded by students at San Diego State University in 1970.
Activities and Programs
San Diego LGBT Pride organizes an annual week-long celebration every July, featuring a pride parade, block party, rally, and a two-day pride festival in Balboa Park. The events attract hundreds of thousands of participants, making it one of the largest annual civic events in San Diego.
Funding and Philanthropy
The organization raises funds primarily through festival ticket and beverage sales, sponsorships, and exhibitor fees. These funds support community philanthropy, which has distributed over $2.5 million in advancement of its mission. The nonprofit aims to create a world free of prejudice and bias for LGBTQ communities.
Impact
San Diego LGBT Pride plays a significant role in promoting LGBTQ rights and visibility in San Diego and beyond. It has grown to become a central part of the city's cultural landscape, fostering pride and equality for a diverse community.

Please welcome our new Manager of Events and Programs, Manny Roman! Manny Roman (Any Pronouns) is a Queer, non-binary, Latinx individual who was born and raised in National City, and is proud of where they come from. Having engaged in community-building social justice work since high school, Manny knew his purpose aligned with bettering the lives of others, specifically by uplifting marginalized and historically-excluded communities however he could. They believe following a pathway towards transformative justice is essential in all aspects of life. Before joining the San Diego Pride team, Manny worked in organizations and programs primarily within higher education – advocating, supporting, and empowering low-income and first-generation students in their academic journey towards success. Manny received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in Feminist Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). During their time at UCSB, Manny concurrently served in multiple leadership positions within the Associated Students of UCSB, which included being Co-Chairperson for the Trans and Queer Commission (TQComm), Off-Campus Senator for the A.S. Senate, and the Chairperson for the Finance and Business Committee – representing and advocating for over 24,000 students in Santa Barbara county. During their tenure, Manny oversaw the organized allocation of a $15-million-dollar student fees budget for diverse student populations; chaired the Pride Committee with a budget of $30,000 to create and execute a week’s worth of events for UCSB Pride; and successfully spearheaded efforts to allocate over $100,000 to student relief during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Beyond their work life, Manny is all about joy and connection. You’ll often find them vibing in a cozy coffee shop with an iced oat milk latte, dancing at a Beyoncé concert, or simply sharing laughs and love with the people who matter most. We are beyond excited to have Manny a part of the team! (fb)

Give Black Women a Break Howdy Pride Family As we near the end of the Black HistoryFutures Month and enter Womens History Month I hope to give us the opportunity to reflect on the intersection of these two heritage months. The origins of Pride were famously only possible due State Of The Movement A dream deferred but a hope unbroken A movement unwavering a dream unrealized but a spirit unbroken In the midst of Black History month what does it mean to be a black queer transfemme nonbinary icon and revolutionary reflecting on my place in the movement. It conjures questions of where is Fill Your Cup with Expansive Love As queer people many of us dont fit into mainstream ideas about relationships. Instead we create our own support systemschoosing family valuing friendships as deeply as romantic partners and forming connections that go beyond traditional labels.
