Joy, Nurse of the Year at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, serves as a Surgical Intensive Care and Expansion RESCUE nurse. As a Clinical Practice and Safety Council cochair, she has been instrumental in implementing COAST, a process designed to improve bedside shift reporting. Frequently stepping into the charge nurse role, she ensures effective communication within the interdisciplinary team, upholding high nursing standards and emphasizing the importance of understanding practice rationale. Joy advocates for mental health and self-care among her peers while also volunteering with her church and cherishing motherhood with her two children. “My faith has been a huge part of how I keep my positive and driven attitude. Every encounter I have I’m able to learn, use and mold it into a positive experience. Advocate Illinois Masonic offers so many learning tools, education, mentoring programs and continuing education courses that all help with my growth. During my nine years with the organization, I’ve had the privilege of having some of the best coworkers, managers and friends who continue to help and motivate me, by giving positive feedback and always encouraging me.
