This week’s Wednesday Word comes to us from Dean Hulce - The Correction Line. 2 Timothy 3:16 - "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness…" This past week we drove from Wyoming to home in Michigan. We were on a small highway between Lagrange Wyoming and Scott's Bluff, Nebraska. The highway is straight as an arrow for many miles, but when we came to the state line it made a 90° left turn, heading north for about a quarter mile then it took a 90° turn back to the right... then went straight east for many miles again. I explained to Linda that it was a correction line. You see, our world isn't square. Or more precisely, it isn't a cube. It's a sphere. If you lay out orderly meridian (longitude) lines, beginning at a specific latitude and then head north, eventually all your northbound lines will converge toward the North Pole. Then your nice square plots will become ever-narrowing trapezoids until they taper away to a triangle and then to nothing. Thus, the need for correction lines. If those lines aren't periodically checked eventually the whole world is out of line. Our lives can run similarly. We may run straight and true for a ways, but if we don’t check ourselves or more importantly have others check us, before long we are off the true path that God has for us. There are many ways that we can get off track in life... and many ways to protect against it. A week or two ago I wrote about what keeps an arrow flying true and what three things keep us on target... those were the Holy Spirit, God's Word, and strong Christian friends. The same is true for correction in our lives. Self-inspection is very important, but just as important are those around us. Surrounding ourselves with people who love us deeply and care about our walk with God is a necessity in life. Give them permission to be a correction line in your life. James 5:16 - Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. Please turn up the volume as you don't want to miss the audio! It was sure nice to have a couple of our leaders from both Florida and Texas there to support the event as missionaries! One of the many benefits on an inter-connected ministry is the ability for our chapters to lend people assets to other chapters. Each of our chapters is independently led by a team of volunteers, but all of the national network of leadership teams is a huge source of support. Our leaders then also gain experience operating on the road as missionaries that is invaluable back home. Plus, they get to make some pretty epic road trips to hunt and fish in cool locations while they are telling people about Jesus. It's a win-win! (fb)
