News

Well, folks, we have some good news and some not-so-good news. The good news is that April is National Native Plant Month and our forests and wetlands are waking up. Take a look at all the lovely native floral blooms and buds celebrating the month. The not-so-good news is that the forecast for this Saturday's Nature Walk with Deb Field is calling for a mix of rain and snow. We've made the tough decision to postpone this event and will announce a new date as soon as we can. If you have already registered for this event, we will notify you by email. This week's blooming beauties include: - Marsh marigold, Caltha palustris - Blood-root, Sanguinaria canadensis - Hobblebush, Viburnum lantanoides (almost blooming) - Red maple, Acer rubrum - Skunk-cabbage, Symplocarpus foetidus - Anemone americana, blunt-lobed hepatica - Two-leaved toothwort, Cardamine diphylla, with false hellebore, Veratrum viride Happy April! 💛💚 (fb)

A week ago today, Joshua's Trust embarked on an exciting new era in land management and habitat restoration. With the help of Norcross Wildlife Sanctuary we successfully conducted our first prescribed burn in a field at the H.E. Preston Nature Sanctuary in Hampton. Alex, JT's Stewardship Coordinator, along with Trustee and steward of the Preston preserve, Scott Matthies, were joined by Emery Gluck, Ethan Smith from Norcross, and friends to conduct this controlled burn. Special thanks to Norcross Wildlife Sanctuary for lending us the equipment for this momentous occasion. Stay tuned for our Spring Newsletter in which Alex writes about the history and benefits of prescribed burns. #joshuastrust #hamptonct #rxburn #loveyourctlandtrust #conservation #norcrosswildlifesanctuary (fb)
