The mission of the Carolina Children's Garden (CCG) is to inspire, educate, and motivate the community to use gardening as a tool to bring families in touch with nature and each other. Since its debut in October 1997, the CCG at the Clemson University Sandhill Research and Education Center (REC) in northeast Columbia has been a retreat for families to connect with nature, each other, and the eco-challenges facing homeowners in a burgeoning suburban environment. In addition to offering a self-guided adventure with nature, the CCG has, over the years, provided environmental education programs targeting public and private school and homeschool groups, families, and teachers, nature walks and talks, Arbor Day programs, storytelling festivals and much more.
