Today, May 21, we honor 25 heroic Mexican martyrs — among them, six courageous priests who were members of the Knights of Columbus. In his homily during the canonization of these holy witnesses of the faith, Pope St. John Paul II said: “They did not stop courageously exercising their ministry when religious persecution intensified in the beloved land of Mexico, unleashing hatred of the Catholic religion. They all freely and calmly accepted martyrdom as a witness to their faith, explicitly forgiving their persecutors.” Their legacy of courage and conviction continues to inspire us today. Council 12604 in Elmdale, Minnesota hosted a local round of the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship, a multi-level competition that gives young athletes the chance to advance from local to regional, sectional, and state contests. The event combines fun and friendly competition with the Knights’ mission of fostering faith, community engagement, and youth development—helping participants grow in confidence, sportsmanship, and Catholic values.
