The Foundation for Women’s Cancer (FWC) supports research, education and public awareness of gynecologic cancers. FWC is the official foundation of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO). The Foundation for Women’s Cancer was formed in 1991 by the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO). The Foundation’s mission is to support public education and increase public awareness of gynecologic cancer prevention, early diagnosis and optimal treatment, and to support research through funding the work of promising young investigators. The Foundation advances its mission through a three-prolonged approach that focuses on awareness, education and research. Through awareness campaigns, the Foundation disseminates messages to help women understand the signs and early warning symptoms to help prevent and detect cancer at its most treatable stage. For women managing reproductive cancer, the Foundation administers top-notch educational programs to help women navigate and access the types of treatment and support that optimizes the best clinical outcomes. Through its nationally renowned Research Grants and Awards Program, the Foundation grants research awards to scientists affiliated with notable academic medical institutions across the country to advance new breakthrough discoveries that help improve prognosis and overall quality of life—having awarded more than $5M in research grants since 1995 that have gone on to support 89 young scientist who have used the funding to jump-start their careers in gynecologic cancer research and treatment.
