THE MUSEUM SHARES THIS RICH HERITAGE BY COLLECTING AND PRESERVING ARTIFACTS AND ARCHIVAL MATERIALS, CREATING INTERACTIVE EXHIBITS, PROMOTING RESEARCH, AND PRESENTING AWARD-WINNING EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS. A FORUM FOR INFORMATION ABOUT THE PLANET'S LARGEST WATERSHED AND FRESH WATER SYSTEM, THIS PRIVATELY FUNDED MUSEUM IS RECOGNIZED AS ONE OF THE LEADING MARITIME MUSEUMS IN THE COUNTRY AND THE "PREMIER MARITIME MUSEUM ON THE GREAT LAKES." IN 2005, THE STATE ASSEMBLY DESIGNATED THE MUSEUM "THE STATE OF WISCONSIN'S MARITIME MUSEUM"
