You're not imagining it — that thick haze and burning smell in the air is from wildfire smoke, not any local fire activity. 🔥 Smoke is drifting into our region from wildfires burning in western North Carolina and even some lingering upper-atmosphere smoke from Canadian wildfires. Shifting wind patterns and stagnant air are pushing it into central Virginia, including right here in Locust Grove. 🚨 While there is no immediate danger in our area, the air quality may be poor, especially for those with respiratory issues, children, and older adults. Please consider the following: Limit strenuous outdoor activity. Keep windows closed. Use air purifiers or recirculate air indoors if possible. Honoring Life Member Bob Davis On Friday May 30th, members of the Lake of the Woods Volunteer Fire & Rescue family stood alongside the Davis family to honor the life and service of Life Member Bob Davis. Surrounded by fellow firefighters, family, and friends, Bob was laid to rest with the dignity, respect, and brotherhood that he so faithfully embodied throughout his life. From his early days at Chancellor Volunteer Fire and Rescue to over two decades with Lake of the Woods, Bob served his community with dedication, compassion, and strength. More than a firefighter, Bob was a devoted father, proud grandfather, and a beloved coach and mentor. His legacy lives on in those he inspired, taught, and protected.
