💙 On May 23rd, we celebrated 143 Day — the 143rd day of the year, named in honor of Fred Rogers, the beloved host of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood and a proud Pittsburgh native. To spread kindness like Mr. Rogers, several Ben Franklin Early Learning classrooms took a special field trip across the street to the Quality of Life Nursing Home. The children delivered handmade "Kindness Day" cards to the residents, shared smiles, and wished them a Happy Kindness Day! 💌😊 The kids had a wonderful time brightening the residents’ day, and the residents were so happy to receive their thoughtful cards and cheerful visits. 🎓 Lawrence County SportsNet proudly announces Abigail Richards as the first recipient of the Shaasy Scholarship, established in honor of Mark Schaas. A distinguished senior at Laurel High School, Abigail has demonstrated exceptional dedication to both academics and extracurricular involvement. She is an Honor Roll student, Unified Bocce Announcer, assembly host, Senior Class Historian, and served as the Track and Field Announcer from 2022 to 2024. This fall, Abigail will begin her studies at Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA, where she plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in communications. Her favorite quote, by renowned journalist Walter Cronkite, captures her driven mindset: “I can’t imagine a person becoming a success who doesn’t give this game of life everything he’s got.” The Shaasy Scholarship was created by LC SportsNet, LCCAP, and the friends and colleagues of Mark Schaas, the legendary “Voice of Lawrence County.” With nearly two decades devoted to high school sports and inspiring future broadcasters, Mark’s legacy lives on through this scholarship and the students who embody his passion for local storytelling.
