The United States Marine Corps Memorial was blessed once again with a wonderful speaker in Sgt Bob Chicca, POW on the USS Pueblo 1968-1969. He and his lovely wife Vanessa greeted visitors; then Bob spoke of his harrowing experience in North Korea as a captive. His explanation of the experience included humor and horror as well as humility. This Marine of Marines was truly why we do what we do. We never want to forget their service and that of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice as we honored the recent passing of Don Whipple and Jack Thurman (both Iwo Jima heroes). Al Jennings - Iwo Jima at 99 years old attended the ceremony as well as a long time supporter Rob Brooks who debriefed Bob upon his return to America in 1969. They reunited at the ceremony! Amazing! USMC Memorial Foundation Vice President, Sam Hickey emceed the event. The Foundation Team was excellent as usual and very much appreciated. The weather was iffy and at one point we thought it might pour, but once again God spared us and the day was perfect including our wonderful Color Guard from NRS Buckley CLB 453, our Bagpiper Jim DeGeorge, the Bugler Dave Astemborski, American Legion Post 1992 All Veterans Honor Guard, and our beautiful flyover by the Rocky Mountain Renegades!
