Coalition to Affirm Real Estate Ownership (CARE)

To improve lives and communities by mentoring economically disadvantaged individuals in the skills of real estate management, leading to their ownership of renovated, income-producing residences in transformed neighborhoods. We envision a three-fold transformation of lives, properties and inner-city neighborhoods for permanent, sustainable improvement that has lasting positive consequences for families and neighborhoods. Our vision is realized through the restoration of abandoned multi-unit properties in distressed urban areas. We train low-income individuals in property maintenance and management skills, and provide the opportunity for them to purchase the properties we renovate. It is our belief that empowering these individuals with the skills & support necessary to own & maintain real estate will offer them a financial safety net and ultimately contribute to neighborhood stability. This transformation is realized through committed volunteers who provide training via personal mentoring relationships with the participants. The fulfillment of CARE Ownership's mission results in a sustainable three-fold transformation: transformation of property, lives, and neighborhoods.
