SBP solves the challenges facing at-risk communities by bringing the rigor of business and innovation to reduce risk, create resilient communities and streamline recovery. SBP works across the disaster preparedness and recovery continuum to drive direct impact and by sharing knowledge, people and funding. By taking a holistic approach, SBP shrinks the time between disaster and recovery in three intersecting ways—advocate, build and prepare. SBP advocates for policy and system change and advises state and local leaders to run disaster recovery programs more efficiently and effectively to create transformational change and scale impact. SBP builds resilient communities efficiently and effectively. SBP prepares individuals, communities and organizations to mitigate risk and speed recovery.

Recently, the City of Mobile, AL, department leaders came together for an internal tabletop exercise to plan for and respond to a mock disaster as part of a larger effort to create a comprehensive Emergency Action Plan across every department in the city. SBP's Resilience Fellow, Madeleine Dotson, who helped organize the tabletop exercise, is playing a pivotal role in enhancing Mobile's response capabilities and helping to develop a robust disaster recovery plan. Thanks to the support of the Walmart Foundation, SBP fellows like Madeleine are helping build a more resilient future for Gulf Coast communities.

Last month, SBP hosted a disaster preparedness workshop for Collaborating Organizations Active in Disaster - Orange County (COAD-OC) in partnership with Niagara Cares, bringing together a network of nonprofits dedicated to strengthening community resilience before disaster strikes. We’re proud to partner with Niagara Cares whose support amplifies our shared commitment to disaster readiness. With events like these, we’re turning awareness into action and empowering communities to build resilience.
