Meet Our Honor Roll: Louis Joseph Cubba Louis Joseph Cubba was born in Du Quoin, Illinois, on October 8, 1918, the son of Michele “Mike” and Barbara Lavalle Cubba. He attended Northern High School in Detroit and worked as an inspector at Murray Corporation in Detroit before the war. His mother and his brother, Sam Cubba, were residents of Rochester, Michigan. Louis entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in September 1942. He was trained as a tail gunner on the B-26 Marauder and was stationed in England, where he flew with the 554th Bomber Squadron of the 386th Bomber Group. On September 23, 1944, Louis was wounded while flying a mission over the Netherlands. He was killed when his airplane crash-landed in Belgium. It was his 48th mission. Louis was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart. He was laid to rest in the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery in Belgium.
