Our long term Grand Challenge goal is to develop a legacy free End User Computing Platform to integrate the best ideas from the research community so we can get powerful enabling technologies that have been languishing in our labs into the hands of ordinary people to make their lives better. At a time when funders have cut back on long-term research, when peer review systems routinely reject big picture papers are as being "too ambitious", and both open source & commercial ventures are locked into a "worse is better" pattern of short term expediency that shifts the burdens of technologies from their developers to their End Users, we offer a way for the general public to directly support the Basic Applied Research needed to put End User interests first. We don't subscribe to the views that End Users are dummies and that today's desktop computers represent the end point of technological evolution.
