SCRTA, a 501(c)(3) non-profit group, supports the development and maintenance of Somerset County's segment of the Great Allegheny Passage, Somerset Lake Nature Park, and the September 11th National Memorial Trail. To convert abandoned railroad nghts-of-way to recreational facilities and to promote the preservation and protection of the the natural resources found along abandoned railroad right-of-ways To enhance natural and recreation amenities of a public greenway circling rehabilitated Lake Somerset

These 43 miles have become one of the most popular and dare we say most scenic parts of the Passage.
