Salem Area Historical Society – Preserving the Past for the Future Salem Area Historical Society Preserving the Past for the Future SAHS Home Page The Salem Area Historical Society SAHS is a 501c3 organization whose major function is to discover collect and preserve any material that may help to establish or illustrate the history of the Salem Township area and to use this material to enhance the lives and knowledge of the citizens of Salem Township Michigan. Its Mission statement is Preserving the Past for the Future. The Salem Area Historical Society which consists of members from several communities was founded in 1975 for Americas BiCentennial. The SAHS gained momentum in 1979 when it banded together for the purpose of obtaining and restoring the South Salem Stone School located at Curtis and North Territorial Roads in Salem Township.
