Feast Day of Saint Rita of Cascia 🕊️ Today we celebrate Saint Rita of Cascia, the patron saint of impossible causes and those facing difficult trials. Born in 1381 in Cascia, Italy, Rita lived a life of deep faith, known for her devotion, patience, and compassion. After a challenging marriage and loss of her children, she became a nun and dedicated herself to a life of prayer and service. Canonized by Pope Leo XIII in 1900, Saint Rita’s story continues to inspire those seeking strength through adversity. Her feast day reminds us that with faith, even the most impossible situations can be transformed. #SaintRita #FeastDay #PatronSaint #ImpossibleCauses #CatholicSaints #ItalianHeritage #FaithAndHope (fb)

Important update for Italian Americans: On May 20, 2025, the Italian Parliament approved Decree-Law 36/2025, which brings significant changes to Italy’s citizenship laws and restricts obtaining Italian citizenship through descent, or jure sanguinis. While the law introduces new restrictions, it will allow those who lost their Italian citizenship before Law 91/1992, to apply to reacquire their Italian citizenship. The window for reacquisition will be from July 1, 2025, to December 31, 2027. The law also introduces the following rules and regulations pertaining to the Italian citizenship application process: • The new law restricts eligibility to individuals with at least one parent or grandparent born in Italy. Alternatively, if the parent was not born in Italy, they must have resided in Italy for at least two consecutive years prior to the applicant's birth. • Minors born in Italy to foreign or stateless parents may acquire Italian citizenship if they have resided legally and continuously in Italy for at least two years, and a declaration of intent is made by the parents or guardians. “We recognize that this new law may cause uncertainty for many Italian Americans, and particularly those who are currently in the process of applying for Italian citizenship,” said Michael Polo, OSDIA National President. “We are committed to helping our members navigate this law, and will continue to monitor the situation for further updates.” (fb)
