ALSO ON NOVEMBER 1, 2020, HOLY SPIRIT HEALTH SYSTEM (HSHS) WAS MERGED INTO PENN STATE HEALTH HOLY SPIRIT MEDICAL CENTER, WHICH BECAME THE SURVIVING CORPORATION, AND THUS, HSHS EFFECTIVELY DISSOLVED.

Holy Spirit Health System, now part of Penn State Health, is a non-profit Catholic community health system. It serves the greater Harrisburg area and south central Pennsylvania. Holy Spirit Health System was established by the Sisters of Christian Charity and opened its doors in 1963 as Holy Spirit Hospital. In 2013, Holy Spirit Health System signed a letter of intent with Geisinger Health System, becoming Geisinger Holy Spirit in 2014. On November 1, 2020, it joined Penn State Health.

Holy Spirit Health System offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services through a network of facilities, including family health centers, internal medicine offices, pediatric practices, and women's health centers. The system is recognized for its excellence in cardiac care, stroke treatment, and orthopedic services. It operates a Level II Trauma Center and a Level III Neonatal intensive-care unit.

As a non-profit organization, Holy Spirit Health System is tax-exempt and files annual reports with the IRS, providing detailed financial and operational information. The system employs over 550 physicians across various specialties, contributing to its role as a significant healthcare provider in the region.
