Let us congratulate Lela King for her painting titled Kurt. Lela is the winner of this year's First Timer Award in MSW's 55th Annual Juried Exhibition. Artist Statement: I practice art for fun. I took up watercolor in 2016 after a 29-year career in the Army as a pharmacist. Painting was a way to relax and fill the time now available in my life. I became enthralled with the beauty of watercolor and challenged by its complexity. It is therapeutic to create. I was mentored by great artists such as Pam Wenger, Yachiyo Beck, Rick Surowicz and Bill Rogers. I sought out (and continue to seek out) many instructors via workshops and online classes to learn all I can. I currently teach beginner watercolor at the Mechanicsburg Art Center in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Let us congratulate Nancy Harkins, winner of the Anne Kasten Memorial Award for her painting, Heavenly Light, in MSW's 55th Annual Juried Exhibition. Artist Statement: Heavenly Light is my attempt to capture the incredible light show I witnessed during a summer evening in Wyoming. The pinks, corals, and golds overhead kept moving and intensifying for a full thirty minutes, casting an orange glow onto the parched landscape below. Rain was near, but only near enough to produce an arc of colors against the largest cloud.
