The Organization awards educational scholarships in an objective and nondiscriminatory manner. Its governing instrument directs that preference be given to persons possessing one or more of the following characteristics: (i) status as a member, or descendent from a member, of the congregation of the John Gloucester Memorial Presbyterian Church, one of the oldest Black Presbyterian congregations in New England; (ii) being a person of color; (iii) residence in Mission Hill, an inner-city neighborhood in Boston, Massachusetts; (iv) demonstrated academic ability; (v) demonstrated leadership and citizenship; (vi) membership in the Presbyterian Church;(vii) a desire to attend a Presbyterian educational institution; and (viii) knowledge of the history of the John Gloucester Memorial Presbyterian Church. No single factor is dispositive, and additional criteria may from time to time be articulated and applied.
